Matthew Van
Meter

Matthew Van Meter is the son of two
educators, and attended Moorestown Friends School, a private Quaker school near
Philadelphia, USA. He is a 2007 graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, USA,
where he studied Russian Language and Comparative Literature, completing also a
year of study at Irkutskii Gosudarstvenyi Universitet. After graduating from
Middlebury College, he began to teach at St. Andrew’s School, a boarding school
in Delaware, USA, where he taught 9th-12th grade World Literature, Drama, and
Post-Soviet Russian History. At St. Andrew’s, he also coached men’s soccer and
men’s lacrosse.
Matthew’s academic interests lie in Russian literature, contemporary Russian
culture and politics, American literature, and physics. When not studying or
teaching, he enjoys backpacking, singing, and theatre. He is also a
competitive Nordic skier.
Matthew loves teaching adolescents and watching students develop the thoughts
that will define their lives. He knows that during every class he learns at
least as much as his students do, and loves the thrill of constant discovery. He
loves big questions without easy answers, and thinks they are the only questions
worth thinking about.
Life is very short; it should be spent on something important.
